“median   an exploration of twenty two days in nine hundred four photographs

august fourth through the twenty sixth was an exploration of interrupted solitude. I spent much of my time in silence, and even the moments spent speaking were obligatory. I made an attempt to spend an hour each night journalling my experiences and recording the location of each photograph. sometimes I spent longer with this process, sometimes it was delayed until the next morning’s train ride. I made my photography selections at this time, and held onto all of those that had potential to help me explain all I saw and felt.
it was somewhere around the last day in Paris that I understood that presenting a selection of photographs would not be satisfying as a true visual representation. they all had to be included. for the time being, I had to be concerned with soaking in every moment that was given to me.

on the plane back home, I think I started to understand how to present what I had been through, all that I had experienced. broken down into each base location, a portrait and a landscape. no exclusions. not one photograph worth more than the next. london. paris. nice. pisa.”
