using a small wooden dowel and two felts, I start working a large damp sheet of paper into the grooves and crevices of the surface just below, scrubbed clean of stains, glue and miscellaneous marks. this can take hours to complete, and working fast is not nearly as important as ensuring a thorough print.
leaving the paper there to dry overnight, I start the embroidering process the next day.
